A small, dynamic graphic and web design studio in North Fremantle looking for a experienced print and web designer with excellent organisational and communication skills, a sense of humour and a marked lack of ego.

Community and environmental organisations, local and state government and medium to large businesses. We do a lot of websites, branding, brochures, booklets, reports and multimedia projects.
We are interested in what you can bring to the table as we understand that people have different skills and backgrounds.
Ideally, we are looking for a designer who is experienced in both web and print mediums, however would still love to hear from you if you are stronger in one medium than the other.
As this position is initially a maternity leave replacement, we would consider a short term contract, but ideally we would prefer to hire someone long term. The position is for 4 days per week, however we are happy to also consider full time.

You must have at least four years studio experience with a solid understanding of typography, line, form, colour theory etc. and understand how these elements translate to printed matter and an online presence.
You must have heaps of initiative and be a self-starter. You must have excellent time and project management skills, as well as great interpersonal skills. You must be able to manage projects and work unsupervised from start to finish. You must have lots of motivation. This is a job that will challenge you while also giving you flexibility and autonomy.
You should have a general knowledge of what's going on in the world relating to print design and digital media. You must keep up to date with trends, applications, technology, news etc. Basic copywriting skills are essential as you should be able to express your self in a professional, grammatically-correct manner.
You must know how to translate a preexisting brand to an online presence. You must understand how forms, SEO, navigation and CMS-integration factor into branding and user experience. You should be able to sketch out your ideas, construct wireframes and navigation maps.
You must be able to craft functional useable pages using valid standard compliant markup and CSS. Ideally you should be able to hand code without the aid of a design view or a visual aid. You must be able to understand and resolve any issues caused by different operating systems and browsers and how they output your code.
You must understand how WordPress works and how it can enhance and restrict your design in the concept phase. You must be able to take a finished web page design from valid markup to fully functional WordPress CMS site. Expertise in using and modifying WP plugins and themes is essential.
A basic understanding of JavaScript and Flash and how they integrate with HTML and CSS is important. You don't need to be able to hand code these technologies but you must understand how they fit into web design projects. You should also have experience in creating animations in Flash and an understanding of the Flash environment: timeline, stage, symbols and so fourth.
You should have experience in managing social media and email marketing services like FaceBook Pages, Twitter and MailChimp.
You must know how to transfer a site from a local to remote host and have a basic understanding of all the services that hosting service providers offer their clients.
You must have extensive pre-press/print management know-how and experience dealing directly with printers.
Software: Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Acrobat Pro, Distiller, MAMP and MS Office.

We have a flexible and friendly working environment we can accommodate your needs. We are looking for someone to start between March and April and the position will include a 3 month probation period.
