Sharing Old Stories in a New Way

Freshwater Bay Museum
History in the making.
Freshwater Bay Museum is a local history museum situated in the Town of Claremont. It is home to a growing collection of objects and archives, presents permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as an Education Program geared to stimulating, mainly primary school children’s, imagination and curiosity.
The growing demand for their education and local history services was affecting the efficiency of their small team – attending to phone enquiries, making bookings and coordinating activities. They needed a website that would streamline their bookings, showcase their collection and promote their education programs.
Design brings the past to life.
Transforming the way you work
The website transformed their work at the Museum by taking much of the stress out of admin tasks that were depleting their ability to do the real work of the museum.
People can now access information 24/7, instead of waiting to make a phone enquiry; education bookings have increased, because it is easy to do so online; categorising online enquiries provides better visitor satisfaction and directs queries to the right expert.
From an in-house perspective, the Museum has found the site easy to update and it has freed them up to develop and expand programs.
All round this site is a winner. It even won Gold for outstanding creative design at the Creativity International Awards.

"Media on Mars were so patient with us,
they really listened to us, understood our needs and made the changes to make the website really work for us. We always felt that we could call them and they would help us.”
Mona Numann, Curator, Freshwater Bay Museum
The aim was to design and build a website for the Museum that would captivate, inform and educate, and above all streamline processes for staff with little computer competency. It was completed in two stages.
Stage I
A refresh of brand identity design / Website design & build with user-friendly Content Management System (CMS), incorporating a Booking system / Responsive calendar / Image galleries / and Optimisation for viewing and booking services on mobile devices.
Stage II
Completed about 6 months later, included:
Design and development of ‘Your Stories’ – a new section of the website / a Live form for public upload (text & image) with a moderation process / Modifications to home page and header / Print Design – Postcards & Brochure.
