Chief Psychiatrist of Western Australia
Office of the Chief Psychiatrist
The Office of the Chief Psychiatrist (OCP) aims to ensure that all Western Australians who are receiving psychiatric care are provided with the highest level of treatment in a humane, ethical and fair manner.
With the prospect of transitioning to its own independent statutory office, separate from the Department of Health, the OCP required an online presence that would deliver a wide array of resources, forms and a searchable register of around 800 authorised mental health practitioners.
Media on Mars designed a digital service that facilitates document retrieval, assisting clinicians in the process of reporting seclusion and restraint to the Chief Psychiatrist.
Website accessibility was a key factor in the design of this service. At a glance the design of the site may be invisible. However, great care has been given to creating the clean visuals. For example, the degree of minimal patterning, the scale of large headings, the balance and position of elements, intuitive navigation, quick links and photography is kept to a minimum for news posts only. This focuses attention on gathering information quickly and easily without distraction.
The site meets government standards Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA. The primary navigation menu features an open display that allows users to quickly scan and arrive at content, without complicated tiered navigation.
“The team at Media on Mars were a dream to work with. They met our brief, worked to our deadlines, and stayed in close liaison with us through the development process. No issue was too big or too small, and they were always available to assist with our queries or last minute changes. Our team are all impressed with our new website, and we regularly receive compliments on the look and functionality of our site. I highly recommend the Mars team, and would happily work with them again”
