City of Karratha

Partnership Project

This project is a great example of how the traditional printed report is evolving; the boundaries dividing print, website, video and audio have now blurred.

The City of Karratha is located in the dynamic Pilbara region of northwest Western Australia. It is a forward thinking local government that is on a transformative journey towards becoming a major regional Australian city. Much of its exponential progress is due to its close working partnerships with business, government and the community.

The City required a means of sharing  the amazing progress over the year, that had been made possible through their major partnership with Rio Tinto. The report of achievements would be presented at a lunch and no matter how beautiful, a printed report would not suffice. The City wanted to acknowledge the value of their partnership and pay thanks across media platforms.

The Mars team decided to embed the ‘thank you’ theme across six highlights selected from the community, over the year. The creative was then rolled out across all the project elements:

  • still photography
  • video footage
  • sound production
  • original music composition
  • scriptwriting
  • website design
  • website development
  • graphic design – 100 page print report & infographics
  • print management

We heard that the whole package was well received and the video even moved some to the brink of tears, but most importantly the City felt proud of the report and confident in how it represented the partnership outcomes and the community impact.
